Refuse Single-use Plastics. Reuse. Compost Food Waste.
PFAS, "forever chemicals," are entering the ocean through multiple routes such as industrial emissions, waste disposal, and even sea spray. These persistent substances don't degrade over time and can build up in marine organisms, threatening both ocean ecosystems and human health by contaminating food chains.
The world’s oceans contain five major garbage patches, also known as oceanic gyres, found in the North and South Pacific, North and South Atlantic, and the Indian Ocean. The most extensive of these is the North Pacific Garbage Patch.
Ghost nets—abandoned, lost, or discarded fishing nets—pose a serious environmental threat. These nets continue to ensnare and harm marine life long after they’ve been left behind, contributing significantly to ocean pollution.
